Star Wars ISSUE 45 by joewight Star Wars ISSUE 45 by joewight
Pencil, Photoshop 3.0, Painter 1.0
A tribute to Marvel Star Wars Issue 45: Death Probe. Written by Archie Goodwin, penciled by Carman Infantino, inked by Gene Day and Chic Stone. Lettered by John Costanza and colored by Glynis Wein. The original cover was done by Larry Hama and Allen Milgrom.  Many of these names I grew up on, particularly Goodwin and Hama. The issue always stuck with me, and I just wanted to revisit a memory.

I love the old Marvel SW comics, though I couldn't stand Infantino's art.  Made the SW male characters way too buff and literally square-jawed, Leia too angular, and Chewie like an ape--but Goodwin's writing made up for it.  After issue 50 ("The Crimson Forever," arguably the best of the series), the artwork caught up to the story.

Sorry for the soapbox there!  This is great art right here, and Death Probe was pretty good.

The color palate, the atmosphere, the mood, it's fantastic! A fitting tribute, well done.
